The Titleist Golf brand started with a simple x-ray. In 1932 the Titleist founder Phil Young, then the owner of a precision moulded rubber company and amateur Golfer, missed a perfectly placed putt during a round of Golf with his friend. His friend happened to be the head of the x-ray department within the local hospital. Young, adamant he hit the putt correctly, was completely convinced the ball was at fault. From there, young and his friend proceeded to take the ball to the hospital to be x-rayed and the ball was proven to be in fact off centre.
With this new discovery Phil Young had one goal, to develop and create the highest quality performance Titleist Golf Balls in the world. Golf Balls that are uniform and consistent to create fair play for all Golfers. This proved to be a hard task for Young, taking up to three years to perfect the very first Titleist Golf Ball. But in 1935 he completed what he set out to accomplish and introduced the best Golf Ball ever made to club professionals and all Golfers alike. His discovery created a process that is still put in place today within Titleist, each Golf Ball has to be quality checked and x-rayed to ensure it is perfectly balanced resulting in consistent play.
